A new engine for economic development: benefits of developing a local industry development plan

Many of Australia’s remote local governments are dealing with social and economic challenges such as skills and labour shortages, industrial decline and, in some cases, industrial obsolescence. These challenges may reflect limited access to markets, services, and infrastructure. This briefing examines some of the economic challenges faced by certain regions in Australia, using the example of North West Tasmania.
