Thank you for your interest in writing for the LGIU, the Local Government Information Unit. We’re always looking for new writers and perspectives to share with our international audience of local government professionals and advocates for the sector.

Join us as an LGIU Associate

Do you have a solid understanding of the issues facing elected and appointed officials in local public services and a knack for describing ideas and practice? Do you want to reach thousands of elected officials and practitioners at hundreds of councils worldwide?

Currently, we particularly need people who have a solid grounding or interest in:

• Artificial Intelligence use
• Health and wellbeing
• Democracy and trust
• Demographic changes and challenges
• Mitigation and adaption to climate change

We’re also looking for people who’d like to write about cross-country comparisons and international examples, which means you can be based anywhere. And we’re always willing to consider great writers with expertise and focus in other areas. You can check out the style and substance we’re looking for below.

How the application process works:

Apply using our online form below. Tell us about your background and drop us a sample of your professional writing as a file or a link. If your experience and writing style meet our needs, we’ll be in touch to arrange a chat. We run a rolling recruitment programme, so even if we don’t have much available work now in your field, it doesn’t mean we won’t soon. We publish over 400 pieces per year that require input from one of our associates.

We pay £300 or equivalent as our standard briefing rate and each commission will be discussed and briefed in advance. We are also seeking to produce more complex pieces of work and there are opportunities to produce a series of briefings.
