Purpose of Role

We’re looking for an enthusiastic, detail oriented and creative person to join our small, but dedicated content team. The Local Government Information Unit is a membership organisation supporting our members with timely, in-depth information and everyone interested in better governance and democracy with inspirational stories from practitioners around the world.

We’re passionate and purpose driven with some very big plans, so we need another team member to support us with our busy editorial calendar and help make our content more engaging for members and potential members. This would be a great opportunity for someone who is organised, driven and looking to make a difference in an organisation that balances daily delivery with the ability to experiment and explore.

Responsibilities

Support processes that ensure a regular flow of content for LGIU members and followers, including by:

• Maintain the editorial schedule via Monday.com
• Assist in writing briefings and articles
• Proofreading and editing briefings
• Working with commissioners to keep the schedule on track.
• Assisting with uploading and editing open content
• Creating and populating newsletter templates and email campaigns
• Updating the LGIU website including the newsletter archives
• Providing administrative support to the content team.
• Support the creation of reports on content and campaign performance, including by sourcing and analysing data.
• Create designs and images for newsletters and campaigns.
• Post content on LGIU’s social media channels.
• Work collaboratively with LGIU colleagues to connect content with other LGIU services
• Seek out open content opportunities, especially across England and Wales.
• Support LGIU events as required.

Experience and Expertise

• Good IT skills with the ability to learn how to use different programmes. We use Mailchimp, Civi CRM, Monday and WordPress
• A demonstrable interest in local government and policy.
• An appreciation of local councils and the role of Councillors
• Outstanding written communication and analytical skills coupled with a consistently high level of attention to detail
• Excellent editorial or journalistic skills and ability to convey written information concisely.
• Experience of producing high quality written content to regular deadlines.
• An interest in developing LGIU membership globally
• Excellent organisational and time management skills; with the ability to work under pressure
• Educated to degree level

•  The role – This is a permanent full-time position (35 hours per week) working for LGiU International with a salary of £25,000 pa.  We offer the Nest pension plan.
• Location – remotely based in the UK with occasional office attendance in London.
