We have been training local government for more than three decades. We have both open online sessions covering a variety of skills and subjects and an extensive in-house programme that can be fully tailored to individual councils. LGIU members get 25% discount on all training.

Strategic Policy and Practice Manager

Thomas and the membership work hand in hand with our growing network of member councils across the UK and Ireland to ensure LGIU empowers our councils to make sense of change and act with confidence. 

Joining LGIU in 2022, Thomas has worked to build a new approach and network amongst LGIU councils. Having completed a Master’s in Local Government Management with the Institute of Public Administration, and a Diploma in Public Management and an MA in Politics from the University of Edinburgh, Thomas’ key interests include local government re-organisation, devolution, public service delivery reform and local government finance.

Partnerships Manager

Caitlin leads the planning and coordination of LGIU’s events, training and partnership engagement activities, and ensures they provide meaningful opportunities for learning, collaboration and sector engagement. 

She firmly believes in the power of collaboration and bringing people together to find solutions and affect positive change for the communities they serve and, through her role as partnerships manager and bringing her experience working closely with LGIU’s member councils, she seeks to respond to the needs of LGIU councils and partners.

Prior to joining LGIU in 2024, Caitlin worked in local government. She secured a place on the National Graduate Development Programme and worked at Cornwall Council, where she gained valuable experience in Strategy and Engagement and Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion. Subsequently, she worked as a Community Link Officer, supporting communities and championing localism in action. She holds a degree in Philosophy, Politics and Economics from Durham University.
