This session delves into the Machiavellian craft of the policy officer. We will consider what policy is, what it does, and how to create policy which does what you want it to do (and not what you don’t).  We'll work through a step by step guide to policy development which aims to make policywriting as foolproof as humanly possible. We'll also look into how to ensure your policy is put into effect, and how to keep it up to date. Along the way we'll discuss some of the hurdles you might encounter, and how to overcome them.

Who should attend

This course will be of interest to officers starting a career in policy, those considering a sideways move into policy, or officers in any field who may be asked to write a policy and are unsure where to start.
